Skandalis was well-known for his hard-working attitude and his never say no attitude to rugby league. However, as time went on, his performances began to catch the attention of selectors from representative teams. On 14 June 2006, Skandalis signed a two-year contract to play in the Super League with the Huddersfield Giants, starting from the 2007 season. In 2008, Skandalis was made vice-captain of the squad, alongside Ryan Hudson. He led the team out against Wigan when regular captain Chris Thorman was injured.
Skandalis was the final first Western Suburbs player remaining at the Wests Tigers club after the merger in 2000. He joined the Magpies in the early 1990s , after having played through his junior years in Minto Cobras Minto Cobras, and attending Sarah Redfern High School. His debut in the grade was at the 9th round of the season in 1996 when he faced Penrith Panthers. Penrith Panthers on 17 May. He played in 10 games that season, which included the Magpies final match against Cronulla on the 6th of September.
