John Oster is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on December 8, 1978 in Bolton, England, United Kingdom. John Morgan Oster (born 8 December 1978) is an English-born Welsh former professional footballer who was midfielder between 1994 and 2015.
It was reported that the Mariners were able to sell Oster the club to Everton at PS1.5 million, in 1997, despite being only 18 and playing only 25 games. It was later discovered that he taken the wrong decision because he was never used in his preferred wingsman’s position, as part of the formation of a 4-4-2. Oster had three goals during his time at Everton at least once at the top of the table against Barnsley as well as during the League Cup against Scunthorpe United and the third time at the FA Cup against Coventry City.
In April 2002 whilst at Sunderland, Oster accidentally shot reserve team player Mark Maley with an air-gun. Neither of the pair believed the gun was loaded and Maley had to undergo an eye operation. Whilst on loan at Leeds United in December 2004 Oster and Jamie McMaster were suspended by the club for misbehaving at the club’s Christmas party. The incident spelled the end of his Leeds career and his loan was terminated. In 2005 his Sunderland contract was terminated after he was arrested for assault outside a Durham nightclub.
Oster moved to Sunderland for a fee in excess of £1 million, but again failed to find regular form. His low point at the club was when he was involved in an incident that ended the career of reserve player Mark Maley by accidentally shooting him in the eye with an air rifle. While at Sunderland, during the 2002–2003 season, he spent five months back on loan with his former club Grimsby Town. He enjoyed two fruitful and productive spells with the club during that season, but despite this his goals and performances could not save The Mariners from relegation, as the club struggled to stop a slide down the Football League ladder. Oster was released by Sunderland in January 2005, shortly after returning to the Black Cats in disgrace from a loan at Leeds United, where he scored once against Millwall. There was little doubt that Grimsby would have liked Oster back but could not afford him and their financial position and reduced league status made it an unattractive option for the player.
Oster was first introduced in Wales at the age of 18 in 1997, appearing as an injury-time replacement to Robbie Savage in a World Cup qualifying loss in Belgium. Oster played infrequently with the Welsh national team from 1997 to 2004, earning 13 caps, but only six included competitive games. Oster was not part of any of the games under John Toshack following his appointment in November 2004. His final cap for Wales was a draw against Northern Ireland in 2004 under former boss Mark Hughes.

The team’s performance that year caught the attention of Premier League side Everton who paid PS1.5 million to acquire him during this summer. The following year, the club decided to sell him to Sunderland which he stayed with until the year 2005. While with The Black Cats he spent time on loan at Barnsley prior to returning back in Grimsby for two loan periods during the 2002-03 season. During the time back at Blundell Park he was unable to stop the club from being relegated. Later, he was loaned into Leeds United before joining Burnley permanently. The time he spent at Burnley was short and he later was then transferred to Reading where he was able to help the club to be promoted in the Premier League for the first time. In 2008, He was transferred towards Crystal Palace where he remained for a year prior to transferring onto Doncaster Rovers. He left Rovers at the end of the 2012 summer to join League Two side Barnet, before transferring to Gateshead, the North London club he had been playing his entire professional career in both the highest divisions within English football. He was signed by Gateshead in September of 2013.
Oster began his career with Grimsby Town and had progressed through the youth ranks of the club. He was subsequently incorporated to the team’s first squad, in the same youth team as players like Danny Butterfield, Matthew Bloomer and Daryl Clare. Oster was elevated to the first team squad during the 1994-95 season, during the time the club was in the former First Division. But he wasn’t able to start his career until season of 1996-97 in which the first time he played was an away win of 3-1 against Charlton Athletic on 26 November 1996. After the club’s demotion to his position in the First Division, Oster was sold to The Mariners, for a price of PS1.5 million. This saw him surpass The Mariners’ record for transfer sales which was originally owned by Gary Croft following his move to Blackburn Rovers for PS1 million the year before. Oster had played only 26 times across all competitions and was scoring four goals after his departure.
During his career, Oster represented Wales at international level, where he earned 13 caps between 1997 and 2004. He was renowned for his excellent first touch and wide range of passing. He was often deployed on the wing, but played as a deep-lying playmaker later in his career.
