A resident from Washington, D. C., Austin chose to go to Coolidge High School in the Manor Park neighborhood, despite being wooed by famous D. C. area sports teams such as DeMatha from middle school. In 2005, as a junior Austin was able to lead Coolidge to win the D. C.
