The claim was proven to be untrue. Prior to his campaign in 2014, Katko said he would not cut off funding for the group. When he took his vote on the issue, Katko stated that he was unable to support any further financing of the group while an investigation into its operations was underway.

In 2016, with Democratic congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, Katko cosponsored the Working Parents Flexibility Act (H.R. 4699). This legislation would establish a tax-free “parental savings account” in which employers and parents could invest savings tax-free, with unused funds eligible to be “rolled into qualifying retirement, college savings or ABLE accounts for people with disabilities without tax penalties.”

In 2016, eight Katko-sponsored bills passed the House; one of those bills became law. Katko had more bills pass the House that year than any other member of the 61-member freshman class elected in 2014.

As of August 14, the news media reported the fact that, in April of 2000 an assault weapon was stolen of Katko’s Chevy pickup truck, and later was used in a standoff and shootout, in which two people were killed. The investigation revealed that seven rounds had been missing from the gun that was stolen however none of the bullets struck the victims. Katko was given the weapon after receiving threats against his life. Katko did not violate any federal or state laws however, a thorough review of the case found the following “he likely violated federal policies for the safe handling and storage of government-issued weapons”.

John Michael Katko (/”‘ k ae t the k oU born on 9 November 1962) is an American lawyer and politician. A Republican Katko has been a member of the New York 24th District on the United States House of Representatives since the year 2015. Before he ran to run for Congress, Katko was an Assistant United States Attorney who led the division of organized crime at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Syracuse and, in that position the attorney assisted in prosecuting criminals who were a part of the Racketeer corrupt and influenced organizations Act. The 116th Congress, he is co-chair for the House moderate Republican faction, which is known as the Tuesday Group.

Katko studied at Niagara University, where he received a bachelor of arts qualification in political science, in 1984 and then the Syracuse University College of Law and earned his J.D. diploma in the year 1988.

Katko challenged incumbent Democratic Rep. Dan Maffei in the 2014 United States House of Representatives elections and was declared the winner on November 4, 2014, by 20 percentage points. This was the largest margin of defeat suffered by an incumbent in the 2014 election cycle.
