He also oversaw Mayo Clinic’s launch of its Destination Medical Center, a 20-year $5.6 billion economic development initiative. As one of his final projects at Mayo Clinic, the organization rolled out an electronic health record system. Noseworthy retired at the end of 2018, in line with Mayo Clinic’s tradition of rotating its leadership every decade.

Noseworthy obtained the MD at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia in the year 1975. He was a resident in the Royal Columbian Hospital in British Columbia before becoming an intern in internal medicine at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre which is a teaching hospital that is affiliated by Dalhousie University, in 1977. He was admitted to neurology in 1979 , and in 1981, he was made an Fellow in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and was again in neurology. He finished postdoctoral research in the field of pathology Harvard Medical School, and in neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
