John Harry Martin Gosden OBE (born 30 March 1951) is a British racehorse trainer. He has trained more than 3,300 winners across the globe and has trained winner of Breeders Cup Classic as well as the Derby and the Arc the King George, the Eclipse and more than 600 winners from the United States.

The year 1984 was the time he was a trainer of Royal Heroine, a turf mare, and she won the Gamely Stakes and the inaugural Breeders Cup Mile. Similar to Bates Motel Royal Heroine also took home the Eclipse Award. In the following seasons, Gosden won the Hollywood Turf Cup three times as well as the Yellow Ribbon Stakes twice, the Ramona Handicap twice and the San Antonio Handicap again with Hatim.

Throughout the mid-1990s, Gosden formed a successful partnership with Frankie Dettori, winning hundreds of races with the Italian jockey. In 1993, he won the Irish Champion Stakes with Muhtarram, the Cheveley Park Stakes with Prophecy, the Haydock Sprint Cup with Wolfhound and the Premio Roma with Knifebox, in addition to more than 100 other races.

In 1994, he won the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Premio Presidente della Repubblica with Muhtarram, the Lockinge Stakes with Emperor Jones and the Pretty Polly Stakes with Del Deya.

In 1983, he was a trainer for Bates Motel, a Handicap race horse. Bates Motel won the prestigious Santa Anita Handicap, the San Antonio Handicap and Philip H. Iselin Handicap, and later , the Eclipse Award. “Bates Motel won ‘The Big Cap’ in front of 85,000 people, it was some occasion” the reporter said.
