John G. Rowland is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on May 24, 1957 in Waterbury, Connecticut, United States. John Grosvenor Rowland (born May 24 1957) is an American politician author, writer and an inmate who was the Governor for the state of Connecticut from 1995 until 2004. A Republican the governor was sentenced to two prison sentences for various corruption-related accusations. Rowland was previously a member of his position in the United States House of Representatives between 1985 and 1991 in the state’s 5th District. In 2004 Rowland quit his post in the course of an investigation into corruption, and later , he pleaded guilty in Federal Court to a single-count indictment of conspiring to commit honest services fraud as well as mail fraud and tax fraud. It was his first time as Connecticut governor elected to three terms after 1784.
In 1997, Rowland was the focus in The Geargate controversy. surplus military equipment meant to be used by police officers of the Connecticut State Police was diverted by Rowland and his acquaintances to use for personal purposes. Equipment and clothing, including backpacks, sleeping pads, camouflage clothing helmets and a bayonet found it into possessions of his children as well as his staff, security team, and even the husband of former Lt. Governor. Jodi Rell. The scheme was orchestrated in the name of an obnoxious State Police Trooper Eugene D’Angelo and was uncovered in an inter-agency State Police and Department of Defense investigation.
In 1998, Rowland implemented the HUSKY Plan (Healthcare for UninSured Kids and Youth) to provide health insurance to uninsured Connecticut children. During his tenure, the budget for the Department of Children and Families more than doubled. Rowland supported addition to government of the state’s first Child Advocate.
In 2002 Lawrence Alibozek, former deputy chief of staff to the Governor, pleaded guilty to steering State contracts to the Tomasso Group, a contractor heavily involved with Rowland and his campaigns. The Tomasso Group’s relationship with Rowland included more than $500,000 in legal campaign contributuins as well as hosting the Governor’s birthday at their Tunxis Country Club.
Rowland was appointed governor of Connecticut in the year 1994, at the age of 37 (the youngest governor in Connecticut history) and then defeated two Democratic opponents Former US Congresswoman Barbara Bailey Kennelly (63%-35 percent) in 1998 ) and ex-State Comptroller Bill Curry (56%-44%) in 2002.

His political career started in the year 1980, when at the age of 23 his election into his first seat in the Connecticut State House of Representatives. He served until 1984 when Rowland was elected to represent the Connecticut 5th congressional district at the United States House of Representatives and was elected again in 1988 and 1986.

Rowland established the Capital City Economic Development Authority, a quasi-state entity to oversee the implementation of his plan. Projects completed under this plan included the construction of Adriaen’s Landing and other work on improving the riverfront, renovation of the former G. Fox & Co. department store so that it could house the new location of Capital Community College, and the Connecticut Convention Center.
