John Erskine (born June 26 in 1980) is an Canadian former professional defenceman in ice hockey. He was a part of the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Dallas Stars, New York Islanders and the Washington Capitals.
Erskine’s NHL debut was in his 2001-2002 NHL season in Dallas and Erskine played in 33 games, scoring one assist. He remained with Dallas until the middle of the 2005-06 NHL season, when Dallas made a trade Erskine with the New York Islanders for Finnish defenceman Janne Niinimaa. Then, at the end of the season the Islanders did not renew the contract of Erskine which left him as a free agent.
Erskine was selected 38th in 1998’s NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars. In 1997-98, 1998-1999 seasons, as well as 1999-2000, Erskine was a member of the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. Erskine received the Max Kaminsky Trophy for the best defenseman in the OHL during the 1999-2000 season. He improved markedly from season to season , until his transfer into the Utah Grizzlies of the International Hockey League in the year 2000.

After a great 1995-96 campaign in the Ajax-Pickering Raiders Midget AAA squad, Erskine joined the next season’s Quinte Hawks Jr.A. squad of the Ontario Hockey Association’s Metro Junior League.
The London Knights selected Erskine with the 2nd overall selection at the time of 1997’s OHL Priority Selection.
On September 14, 2006, Erskine signed as a free agent with the Washington Capitals. Following the end of the season he extended his stay with the Capitals for a further two years. In the final year of his contract a neck injury kept him out of the lineup for the entire 2014–15 season, effectively ending his playing career.
