John Anthony Cheesewright (born 12 January 1973) is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League for Birmingham City, Colchester United and Wycombe Wanderers. He was a goalkeeper.

He later spent brief times in Romford, Aldershot Town, and Heybridge Swifts, before attempting returning into the Football League with Barnet, where he was signed as goalkeeper backup just prior to the deadline to transfer in April. While not playing for Barnet, Cheesewright moved on to play for a variety of teams from the Hertfordshire and Essex region, such as St Albans City, Leyton Pennant, Braintree Town, Heybridge Swifts (again), and then, in 2000 as an outfielder in the Essex Senior League. Cheesewright was born in Romford, Havering. He began his career in football as a player for Tottenham Hotspur, but was dismissed in 1991, and was not able to play in his first squad. He then joined Southend United, but again was not able to make it into an initial squad. After a stint playing non-league football for Kingsbury Town, he signed for Birmingham City, initially on an uncontracted basis in the year 1991. His debut was in the Third Division on 14 December 1991 in a loss of 2-1 at A.F.C. Bournemouth and was also for the Football League Trophy four days later. However, after a short time the club allowed him to go to join Cobh Ramblers.

After a brief stint with Dagenham & Redbridge, Cheesewright moved to Braintree Town, where he performed well enough to gain an opportunity to return to the Football League with Colchester United. The price, which was a staggering PS10,000, was the highest Braintree transfer fee and Cheesewright continued to play in 40 league games for Colchester. In June 1995, he played on loan with Wimbledon in a 4-0 loss against Bursaspor during a group game in the 1995 UEFA Intertoto Cup, when English clubs weren’t taking the tournament seriously. An appearance in the Mansion as part of the Hong Kong First Division League followed by a returning to the Football League, this time with Wycombe Wanderers, where he played in 18 league games.
