James Duncan Wiemer (born January 9th 1959) is an Canadian professional defenceman in ice hockey who was a player for Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings and Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL).

The year was 1986 and he was sold in 1986 by the Rangers to the Edmonton Oilers. The 1987-88 season was when Wiemer played in 12 regular season games, as well as 2 games during the Conference Final playoff for the Oilers as well as an Stanley cup ring. But, his name was not listed in the Stanley Cup. The requirements to get your name to be included on the cup is to have played at least 41 games for the winning team in the regular season and/or one game during the Stanley Finals. After spending the majority of his time with the Oilers Farm team in the AHL the following season He was traded for the Los Angeles Kings in March 1989.

Wiemer began his journey to the professional ranks at Peterborough, Ontario with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League in 1978. The team he played for won winning the 1979 Memorial Cup Championship and continued his career as a player at Peterborough until the conclusion in the 80-81 OHL season. Wiemer was his most successful season in the period between 1980 and 1981 when he scored 95 points, scoring 54 assists and 41 goals. While playing for the team the team, he was picked at the time of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres with the 83rd selection at the 4th round.

Wiemer was a professional player with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League (AHL) under coach Mike Keenan. He was initially drafted as a forward, but was later shifted to defense by Keenan. He played a key role of 1984’s Calder Cup Championship run.

In July 1989, Wiemer signed as a free agent with the Boston Bruins where he found a solid home. Under coach Mike Milbury, Wiemer was a solid fixture on the blueline with Boston for the better part of four seasons. Wiemer was a member of the Bruins’ organization for one more season with their AHL team. In 1994, Wiemer returned to the Rochester Americans for his final season.
