James Joseph Sorgi Jr. (born December 3 1980) is an ex- American football player. He played in the NCAA football tournament in the University of Wisconsin and was selected with the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL Draft. Sorgi played as the back-up for Peyton Manning for several years and was awarded an award when the Colts took home Super Bowl XLI against the Chicago Bears. After his release by the Colts after which he joined the New York Giants to compete for the position of backup in place of Eli Manning, but lost his bid, and was let go in the offseason.
Sorgi joined The New York Giants on March 9th 2010. At the time of signing, Sorgi was likely to play in place of the starting quarterback Eli Manning, but in an earlier game in the preseason with team New York Jets, Sorgi ruptured the capsule of his right shoulder. He was put on Injured Reserve for the rest of the season. After the season ended Sorgi was declared an unrestricted free- agent.

In the 2008 season Manning was not allowed to take the field until the last regular-season game. He saw the most of his playing time during the preseason of 2008, since Manning recuperating from knee surgery. On the 9th of December 2009, Sorgi was put on injured reserve because of an injured labrum within his shoulder. Sorgi was released from Indianapolis on March 5, 2010.

In a incident that occurred on the 11th of October 2003,, referred to as the Reynolds-Sorgi case, Ohio State linebacker Robert Reynolds deliberately choked Sorgi to injure Sorgi’s trachea. This occurred following the play having been declared dead. Sorgi could not continue playing for the rest of the game due to suffering from breathing difficulties and struggling to speak. On October 28, 2011, Reynolds made a public apology for the incident by citing his wife and four kids as the reasons he decided to clean his name and take responsibility in his behavior. Reynolds added that both he and Sorgi had made amends before the interview.
Sorgi was selected in the sixth selection of the year 2004’s NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. There, he proved to be a suitable backup to quarterback Peyton Manning. In his debut season, Sorgi was a part of his team, the Denver Broncos, throwing for 175 yards and two touchdowns. This was his only appearance during the season. The season of 2005 NFL campaign, however, he was able to gain an additional few minutes of playing time and completed 42 of his 61 attempts to gain 444 yards.
