Jim Paek is one of the most popular and richest Ice Hockey Player who was born on April 7, 1967 in Seoul, South Korea. Jim Paek (Korean: baegjiseon, Baek Chi-sun , born 7 April 1967) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who is the current director of hockey at the Korea Ice Hockey Association and head coach of the South Korean national team. Paek was a player for the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1990-91 until 1994-95 and also won the Stanley Cup twice, in 1991 and 1992, with his team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Paek is the first Korean hockey player to compete in the NHL and also the first to see his name inscribed upon the Stanley Cup.

In the course of four seasons, and winning two Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh, Paek was traded in mid-season to Los Angeles Kings in 1993-94 as part of the deal which led to the signing of Tomas Sandstrom to the Penguins. After just 17 regular season matches with the King, he resigned to his former team, the Ottawa Senators for the 1994-95 NHL season.

In 2004, Paek served as an assistant coach for the St. Edward High School, leading the team to an Ohio state championship. While coaching at St. Edward, he also served as a co-coach of the Cleveland Panthers bantam minor squad, leading them to an Eastern Elite Amateur Hockey League title.

On 11 August, 2005, Paek was named the assistant head coach for the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL). Paek helped guide the Griffins to their first Calder Cup in 2013, the American Hockey League’s regular season championship in 2005-06, and a cumulative record of 357–272–33–46 (0.560) during his nine seasons. Paek was the longest-tenured coach in franchise history, having served as the assistant coach for nine seasons.

Paek’s NHL career started when he joined the Penguins in the 1990-91 season. When he joined into the NHL, he was first Korean hockey player to ever compete in the NHL and as involved in that Penguins’ Stanley Cup run in 1990-91, he was the first player from Korean descendance to have his name inscribed upon the Cup. The Penguins sweater is now displayed in the Hockey Hall of Fame honouring this achievement.
