Jharel Leandre cotton (born on 19 January 1992) is an American professional baseball player with the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball (MLB). Cotton has also played MLB with the Oakland Athletics. He played in the NCAA baseball tournament in East Carolina University.

On August 1st on the 1st of August, 2016 The Dodgers exchanged Cotton, Grant Holmes, and Frankie Montas to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Rich Hill and Josh Reddick. Cotton was assigned to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. Cotton was able to retire his first set of 26 Round Rock Express batters he was faced with on August 9, but he was able to allow a triple after only two batters left in the 9th, just a couple of runs short of the perfect game. Cotton was summoned in to join the Athletics on September 7 to make his debut in the major leagues. Cotton started the season in the A’s lineup, but after beginning slow, the team was sent to AAA. After a short time, he was called up once more, but transferred back to AAA. The splits of Cotton’s home and road were very different when he was at home, the team was 4-6 with 6.98 ERA while on the road, he was 5-4 with an 3.94 ERA. On March 22, 2018, Cotton underwent Tommy John surgery and was forced to miss the entire 2018 season. In the year 2019, Cotton began his rehab by pitching for the Single-A Stockton Ports but was set back in May with an injury to his hamstring and decided to undergo surgery to correct the problem. Cotton came back to pitch in the month of July, and was pitched by the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators.

Cotton was designated for assignment on November 20, 2019.

After a single time in East Carolina, Cotton was selected to the Dodgers in the 20th round of the 2012 MLB Draft. Cotton was drafted again and made his debut for the Ogden Raptors. Cotton was a part of the 2013 Great Lakes Loons, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts. Cotton did not play in the initial two months of season in 2015 after he was injured in a left wrist. Cotton pitched one time for Great Lakes and four for Rancho Cucamonga before being promoted to Double-A Tulsa Drillers. In the latter part of August the team was promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers and tried to get a bullpen assignment for the team to Los Angeles. In the four levels that he was for 21 times (with eleven starts) and went 6-2 with an 2.45 ERA. In the end, the Dodgers also added Cotton on their roster of 40 players following the season. He started the year as the starter for Oklahoma City and was selected to be part of the world team in the 2016 All-Star Futures Game. In the game, Cotton only faced one batter, pitching just three pitches to Phillies infielder Dylan Cozens. But, Cozens flied out, making it possible for Cotton to secure the victory following his teammate Yoan Moncada hit the winning home Run in the World Team.
