He was a New South Wales State of Origin and Australia national representative forward, he was a player with the National Rugby League for the St. George Illawarra Dragons before moving on into the Super League and playing for French club Catalans Dragons. Ryles started his career as a coach in the year 2012 working with the NSW State of Origin under 20s team as their assistant coach. This role was carried on to 2013. Both times, he was successful in beating Queensland’s under 20s team.

As of 2000 Ryles was able to make the National Rugby League debut in 2000, with the St George Illawarra Dragons. After 2001’s NRL season, Ryles went to in 2001 on the Kangaroo tour. In June 2008 the Dragons announced that Ryles had been signed by French Super League club, Catalans Dragons for two years starting in 2009.
Ryles was back in the NRL in 2010 for The Sydney Roosters and was part of the team which made an appearance in the Grand Final that season. After an unsuccessful year for the Roosters his contract was terminated a year prior to the date of expiration. Ryles was then signed by Melbourne Storm Melbourne Storm for the 2012 season. The Storm who were Minor premiers of 2011 pointed to Ryles’s previous experience as one of the main factors in his selection. Ryles was a player during the 2013 Melbourne Storm’s World Club Challenge win over Leeds. Ryles had played 15 test matches for Australia and also played for New South Wales Blues New South Wales Blues on eight occasions.
At the end of 2015 Ryles was approached by Melbourne Storm to join their staffing team as assistant coach where he currently holds this position.
