Rubin was also the co-founder of the Internet company named Flektor together with Naughty Dog’s cofounder Andy Gavin and former HBO executive Jason Kay. In May 2007 the company was acquired by Fox Interactive Media, which is an affiliate that is part of News Corp. Fox described the company as “a next- generation Web site that provides users with a suite of Web-based tools to transform their photos and videos into dynamic slideshows, postcards, live interactive presentations and video mash-ups.” On October 7, 2007, Flektor was partnered by its sibling company Myspace as well as MTV to offer instant feedback from the audience via polls to the interactive MySpace and MTV Presidential Dialogues series with the then-presidential candidate President Barack Obama.

On 29 May 2012, Rubin joined the struggling video game publisher THQ as President, and was responsible for all of THQ’s worldwide product development, marketing and publishing operations. At the time Rubin joined THQ, the company had laid off hundreds of its employees and the stock had lost over 99% of its value from its high.

Jason Rubin (born 1970) is an American video game director, writer, comic book creator and Internet company founder best known for the Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter series of games which were produced by Naughty Dog, the game development studio he co-founded with partner and childhood friend Andy Gavin in 1986. He was the president of THQ before its closure due to bankruptcy on January 23, 2013.

A few days after delivering controversial remarks at the 2004 D.I.C.E. Summit, in which he criticized publishers for not acknowledging and promoting the talent responsible in creating video games Rubin made public announcements about his resignation from Naughty Dog.

Crash Bandicoot turned out to be a huge success and Sony made the character as their own unofficial PlayStation Mascot for several years. Due to the amazing graphics that the game’s creator was able to create using the PlayStation console it served as an example of quality and performance that other game makers aimed to achieve and it spawned three sequels developed by Naughty Dog that sold over 26, million copies. The series continues on with other teams working on development, having sold over 40 million units across the globe. Following their success with Crash Bandicoot, Rubin and Gavin began work with Jak and Daxter, a franchise which sold 9 million units in the different Naughty Dog versions. The series was continued by other creators and is currently around 14 million sold across the world. Prior to Jak and Daxter’s launch, Sony acquired Naughty Dog, which became an all-owned company to Sony Computer Entertainment America in 2001. This is why Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was developed exclusively for the PlayStation 2.
