He decided to stay out the following two years due to reasons of his own, but returned in 2002-03 to play for his AHL clubs located in Springfield as well as Lowell. He played for the NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers in 2003 but was dismissed towards the close of training camp.

In 2007–08, Bonsignore returned to North America, where he tried to rehabilitate from a groin injury suffered in Norway while playing a few games with the Fresno Falcons. At the time the New Jersey Devils signed him for their farm team, the Trenton Devils, where he finished the year. Bonsignore has not played since.

Bonsignore later coached Rochester Red Wings minor ice hockey team, and signed to play with the Hamilton Steelhawks in January 2016.

In the absence of an offer of qualifying by the Lightning the following year, Bonsignore signed as an unrestricted free-agent and joined Toronto Maple Leafs. Toronto Maple Leafs organization for the 1999-2000 season. The Maple Leafs cut him late during training camp and assigned to the team’s AHL Farm team at St John’s. Bonsignore sustained an ankle injury during the season and was asked to be released.

Bonsignore is a native of Rochester, New York. When he was a child Bonsignore was a participant at the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament as a member of an ice hockey minor team from Rochester.

Bonsignore was selected at the beginning of round one of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, 4th overall from the Edmonton Oilers, from the Niagara Falls Thunder in the Ontario Hockey League. When he was playing with the Oilers’ American Hockey League farm team during the 1997-98 season Bonsignore was traded for Tampa Bay Lightning.
