Pasanen was an assistant to the Iserlohn Roosters DEL team coach in 2012. After Doug Mason’s dismissal, Pasanen was appointed caretaker coach and remained as the head coach.
He then moved to Germany, where he played three years at EC Wedemark, including one year (96-97) in the top-flight Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) and a total of five years at minor league teams EC Wilhelmshaven-Stickhausen, ESC Erfurt and ERV Schweinfurt. In 2002, he retired.

Pasanen was a player for Imatran Kettera from 1993 to 1993. He then spent one season in the United States. The 1993-94 campaign was split between Muskegon Fury of CoHL and West Palm Beach Blaze (SuHL) and Daytona Beach Sun Devils (CoHL).
Pasanen was appointed head coach of ERV Schweinfurt and remained there until 2004. For the 2004-05 campaign, he accepted the role of assistant coach for DEL side Hannover Scorpions. From 2005 to 2008, he was the head coach at Moskitos Essen, a German second-division side. In 2010-11, he was interrupted by a stint as a Schwenninger Wild Wings assistant coach in 2008-09.
