He was the Finnish Rally Champion in 2001 and drove a Citroen Saxo at the Junior World Rally Championship. He placed second in the Finnish Championship, driving a Ford Focus RS WRC 02, and he also earned his first official World Rally Championship points.
After 2006, Tuohino has taken part in a few WRC races and has returned to race on the Finnish Rally Championship.
Tuohino went on to drive a Ford Escort WRC private car and finished 8th at the Rally Finland 1999. He switched to Toyota in 2000 and was now rallying in a CorollaWRC.

His rally career began in 1993, when he entered a Toyota Starlet rally sprint. His first rally was January 1994. He drove a Ford Escort RS 2000. He was already driving in Lancia Delta by 1994, where he participated in most of his Finnish rallies. The Lancia was paid for by his father.
He purchased a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Mk. in 1997 from Mitsubishi. III. He was the 1999 Finnish Group N Champion thanks to Mitsubishi.
In 2004 he continued to drive a Ford Focus RS WRC 03 car and, again, had a good year, scoring multiple points during the season. For 2005, he joined Škoda, and shared a drive with fellow Finn Jani Paasonen alongside team leader Armin Schwarz. However, the team folded at the end of the year, which left Tuohino without a drive for the next season.
