Janne Kristiansen, born 21 November 1952, is a Norwegian lawyer. From 2004 to 2009, she was the first chief of the Criminal Cases Review Commission. She also served as the head of the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST), from 2009 to 2012. Her resignation came after a scandal that was highly politicized.

On 25 September 2009, she was elected director of the Norwegian Police Security Service. Three other applicants were considered, and Minister Knut Storberget specifically requested that she apply. Roger Berg served as acting director during the time between her appointment in November and her accession. Kristiansen, as head of PST, was also the director of National Police Directorate. He was one of two top leaders in the Norwegian Police Service. As head of the PST, Kristiansen oversaw the arrest of three Norwegian residents suspected of plotting a terrorist attack on Jyllands-Posten. Her PST leadership also saw the terrorist attacks on Utoya and government quarters on 22 July 2011.

She resigned as director on 18 January 2012, after accidentally revealing Norwegian intelligence assets in Pakistan, with her deputy Roger Berg succeeding her as acting leader.

She was the head of the Criminal Cases Review Commission from 2004 to 2009. In this capacity, she was responsible for the appeals of Fredrik Fasting Torgersen’s and Arne Treholt’s criminal trials.

Born in Oslo, Janne Kristiansen graduated cand. jur. From the University of Oslo, she worked as a prominent defence attorney for many years. Between 1985 and 1990, she was the head Of Forsvarergruppen Av 1977, a group of defense lawyers that worked to uphold the principles of the Rechtsstaat & rule of Law. This unfolded after she had answered a direct question from Member of Parliament Akhtar Chaudhry (Socialist Left Party) during the parliament’s (Storting) questioning of her. The question was whether Norway has cooperation with Pakistan in the intelligence arena, and Kristiansen’s reply was interpreted as a confirmation that the Norwegian Intelligence Service (military intelligence) had in fact a presence in that country. Both the two major news agencies in Norway, however, have written that representatives from the Norwegian Armed Forces have confirmed the presence of the Intelligence Service abroad on a number of previous occasions. This would make it uncertain whether confidential information was revealed during the hearing. In March 2012 police investigations of Kristiansen were dropped by the Bureau for the Investigation of Police Affairs.
