Circulation had steadily increased since the magazine’s debut, with 700,000 readers as of the day Pratt announced she would be stepping down.
Chia Pet was formed because of its love for indie music. Pratt and Christina Kelly, a Sassy writer, were also members. Chia Pet’s 1992 single “Blind Date” was released on Kokopop. It won Single of the Week honors from Melody Maker and NME.

Born in Durham, North Carolina and attending Phillips Academy in Andover (Massachusetts) at age 15 was her home. Pratt graduated from Phillips Academy and enrolled at Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio to get a degree as a communications major with a minor for modern dance. Her publishing career started with internships at Rolling Stone magazine, and Sportstyle, a Fairchild Publication. Pratt was hired as an assistant editor at McCall’s after graduating. In 1986, she became associate editor at Teenage Magazine. She then founded Sassy Magazine.
After Sassy’s success, Pratt hosted a Fox talk show in 1992. However, it was cancelled after just 13 weeks. In 1993, the show was moved to Lifetime but lasted only 12 weeks because of low ratings.
Pratt and actor/writer Andrew Shaifer have a daughter, Charlotte Jane (born December 2002). She was pregnant with twins, due in the summer of 2005, but she miscarried both that April.
