He is also known as a media mogul. Wejchert co-founded the ITI Group in Poland, which is one of the largest media companies. He also co-founded and was co- owner of TVN. He was also the fourth richest pole.

He was appointed to the US Poland Action Commission in 1991 by Zbigniew Brazezinski. Wejchert, who was also a co-founder and first president of the Polish Business Roundtable (a business club), was also a founder. Wejchert received the Order of Polonia Restituta in 1998 for his creation of TVN Group, one of the first Polish private TV channels. Polish Business Rountable’s headquarters are located at the Sobanski Palace. Wejchert graduated in Economics from the University of Warsaw. Wejchert started his business career in 1974 by working at Konsuprod, GmbH & Co., a German trade company. In 1976, Wejchert founded the Polish subsidiary of Konsuprod. This was the first direct foreign investment in Poland since the fall of communism.

Wejchert also bought Stara Papiernia in Warsaw, a paper mill that was burned down by fire in 1984. Stara Papiernia was restored by Wejchert, who reopened it and made it a shopping mall in November 2002. He also owned Sobanski Palace in Warsaw, and Palacyk Wielopolskich W Warszawie. This was to be the largest golf course in Poland, with a total value of over 250mln Zloty. The Wejchert Golf Club was not completed when he died. The original plan for the golf course was to use the land.

Jan Wejchert died on 31 October 2009, at the age of 59. Wejchert had fought leukemia since 1993, which he had kept secret from the public. However, the cause of his death was a heart attack due to an infection and sepsis. After his death, the Polish Business Roundtable honoured him by creating the prestigious Jan Wejchert Award, which in polish is the Nagroda Polskiej Rady Biznesu imienia Jana Wejcherta.
