Jan De Cock is one of the most popular and richest Artist who was born on May 2, 1976 in Etterbeek, Belgium. Jan De Cock, a contemporary Belgian artist and visual designer was born in Etterbeek on 2 May 1976. His art has been centered on production and how artists relate to Modernism, a broad culturally-infused concept. Jan De Cock was awarded the Prix de la Jeune Peinture Belge in 2003. After Luc Tuymans he is the only Belgian artist who has had a solo exposition in Tate Modern. He was also the first living Belgian artist that has an exhibition at MoMA.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (or JKO), is the general term that encompasses the entire exhibition project. The project was completed between September 2011 to June 2012. It can be broken down into two distinct but interrelated parts. Part 1: Six Cahiers were published in a periodic picture story. White-out Studio presented the Cahiers in five different formats that were distributed over five months (September 10, 2011 – January 31, 2012.). Part 2 – The Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden presented the exhibition Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (March 10 – June 24, 2012), and the catalogue Jan De Cock Handbuch Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’. Eine Romantische Austellung’.

Series of exhibitions, taking place in 2015 and 2016 at the gallery of Office Baroque in Brussels. The latter exhibition featured 18 new “Abstract Capitalist” sculptures as well as 9 “Memorial” drawings. In December 2016 Abstract Capitalism II opened at The Brussels Art_ Institute, a ‘memorial exhibition’ in the form of an old school salon, revealing how artists’s houses and studios have become the object of public fascination and – at the same time – misunderstanding about art, creator and the aesthetic. It entails a series of 124 studies of homages to the idea of the arcade and the studio.

Jan De Cock held his first US museum exhibit in 2008. This multi-part installation displays framed images interspersed with plywood modules. Clusters of photographs and photomontages with black frames are placed on the walls. Some may be as high as the ceiling, while others can be as low as possible. Sometimes, smaller photos are placed on white backgrounds in some of these groupings. Some photographs are partially obscured by white mats that have peekaboo cutouts or by sculptural interventions such as slotted plywood boxes. This photographic material is a response to the location it will screen. It features different objects from MoMA’s collection, as well as images from film history, art, architecture, or film history.

This installation was made for the 2000 group exhibition Beeld in Park (June 30, 2000-October 15, 2000). Jan De Cock designed a new entrance for Jan De Cock, which was the carriage entry to a private residence that opened onto Jean-Felix Hap Park’s public space. The pavilion was constructed as an extension to the new entrance. It is adjacent to a classical 18th-century gateway. The park was divided by a module extension measuring 85 square metres.

Jan De Cock designed a series in-situ sculptures for Casa del Fascio in 2006 that interacted with the architectural forms of two locations in Northern Italy’s region of Lombardy: Galleria Massimo Minini, Milan, and Galleria Francesca Minini, Brescia. Daniel Buren was invited to work in-situ with De Cock’s museum reference frame and complete the project. Buren’s intervention consisted in putting De Cock’s well-known motif of green vertical (8.7 cm) wide stripes on the sculptures, and using mirrors to interact.

This series of exhibitions tackles the concept of the free market. The first edition Everything For You, Mexico City opened in the spring of 2013 in Galería Hilario Galguera, in Mexico City. Jan De Cock grants the city a number of different sculptural Gifts, with which he rejects today’s supply-and-demand economy by giving the inhabitants of the city a gift pur sang, voluntarily and in places where no one has asked for them. Before the Gifts are exhibited, they are first activated in the city by means of a photographic portrait. These photos are then printed in a Memorial Paper, accompanied by two essays and photographs of other cities, and spread over the city. Twenty cities are featured in this project, including Mexico City, Otegem, Strombeek, Havana, Kiev, Carrara, Belfast, Hong Kong, Herford, Liverpool, Casablanca, Antwerp, Godarville, New York, Tokyo, Paris and Brussels.
