Janice “Jan” Betker, a Canadian curler, was born July 19, 1960 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Betker is most well-known for her third place on the Sandra Schmirler rink, which won three world championships as well as an Olympic gold medal. Betker took over as team skip after Schmirler died from cancer in 2000.
Betker made her return to the national championships in 2007. Joan McCusker, who was second for Schmirler as well as Betker, retired from competitive curling. She was replaced by Nancy Inglis, her sister. Sherry Linton (previous third) joined Jolene McIvor’s rink for 2006-2007 season. Lana Vey was her replacement. Betker’s team reached the final, losing to Kelly Scott. Betker declared that she was taking a break from curling after the season. Betker returned to curl for three World Curling Tour events, one in 2008-09, and one in 2011-12. She hasn’t curled competitively since.
Betker and her team finished second at the 2005 Canada Cup of Curling. This was not enough to earn them a spot at 2005 Canadian Olympic Trials in Halifax. Shannon Kleibrink had already won an Olympic Trial berth. Betker was ranked 4-5, with Kleibrink being the eventual winner.

Betker was part of the Schmirler team and won three Canadian curling championships, in 1993, 1994, 1997. The team won three world championships in 1993 and 1994 as well as 1997. The team won the Nagano Olympics Gold Medal for curling in 1998. Betker was also the lead for Randy Woytowich in the 1984 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship.
