She joined the firm in 2017 and was a partner at the legal firm Buckley Sander in which she was the head of the workplace culture department and was the head of Buckley Sander’s Chicago office. In 2018 she was one of two co-founders at Time’s Up and lead its Legal Defense Fund that connected victims of sexual harassment to lawyers. The fund been able to raise nearly $24 million as of the year 2019 and connected more than 3,600 people in different sectors to legal assistance in sexual harassment cases.

In March 2019, Tina Tchen was hired as an adviser to investigate the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) “workplace culture” after allegations of sexual and racial harassment led to the firing of the SPLC’s co-founder and resignation of its president. Also that year, she was named chair of the Recording Academy’s new task force for inclusion and diversity following Neil Portnow and Ken Ehrlich’s disparaging comments about women in the music industry.

During the Obama campaign in the year 2008 Tchen became one of the biggest supporters, raising $200,000. In the years following Obama’s inauguration until January 5th in 2011, she was director of the White House Office of Public Engagement that was which was previously called the Office of Public Liaison. From 2011 to 2017 she was the Assistant to the President Barack Obama; Chief of Staff for the First Lady Michelle Obama; and Executive Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls.
