Harmon, a 12-year old girl disappeared in Creston, Ohio in 1982. Authorities used new technology to test DNA evidence discovered on Harmon’s body in 2008, after pressure from her family. The tests in 2010 linked Harmon’s death with Robert Anthony Buell who was convicted of the 1982 murder Krista Lea Harrison. Buell was not tried nor convicted for Harmon’s murder, although he was executed in 2002 for Harrison’s killing.
Renner was a leader in a forensic genealogy-based investigation to locate the killer of Barbara Blatnick (17 year old Ohio girl who was murdered in 1987).
In 2004, Renner directed an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story “All That You Love Will Be Carried Away”. King granted Renner the rights to adapt this story as part of his Dollar Baby program for aspiring filmmakers. It was an official selection at the 2005 Montreal World Film Festival.
