Ian Christopher Bridge was born 18 September 1959 in Victoria (British Columbia). He is an ex-member of Canada’s national soccer team, and is currently the head coach for the national women’s under-17 team.
Bridge was the head coach of University of Victoria’s women’s soccer team between 1990 and 2000. In 1997, Bridge was appointed assistant coach for Canada’s women’s soccer team. This position is still his. In March 2001, he was appointed U-19 national women’s soccer coach and chief assistant coach of the national team. (The U-20 national youth women’s soccer team is now Bridge. Bridge is also the team chef for Canada’s men’s youth soccer teams. Bridge, who was the head coach for the U-17 Canadian women’s national soccer team, resigned on 10 January 2010. She is now the coach for the Victoria Highlanders in the USL (United Soccer league).
Bridge was inducted into Canada’s Soccer Hall of Fame in 2003.

Bridge started his professional career in 1977. He played in the NASL from 1979 to 1983 with the Seattle Sounders, then with the Vancouver Whitecaps (1984). In 1984, he joined the MISL indoor soccer team with the Tacoma Stars. Bridge played in 124 NASL games and scored 13 goals over six seasons. After the NASL Bridge was closed, he played two seasons for the Swiss club FC La Chaux-de-Fonds. This club was then in the first division of the Swiss league. In the Canadian Soccer League, he was a player for the Victoria Vistas (1990), Kitchener Kickers (91), and North York Rockets (91). Ian was a youth soccer player with Lakehill Soccer Association, Victoria BC. He has an annual Youth Player “Inspirational” trophy in his honor.
Bridge, a defender, made his debut for Canada against Trinidad & Tobago in October 1981. He earned 34 caps and scored 5 goals. Bridge has played in all three games for Canada at the 1986 FIFA World Cup finals. This was the country’s first appearance at a World Cup finals. Bridge represented Canada at the 1984 Olympics as well as the 1979 FIFA World Youth Championship. Bridge scored a goal during the 1982 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. His last international was the CONCACAF Gold Cup Finals match against Mexico in June 1991.
