Ian Alfred Borchard, born 5 August 1957, is an Australian rules footballer. He played for Richmond in the Victorian Football League during the 1970s. He was also a player for West Adelaide in South Australian National Football League.
Ian Borchard, West Adelaide’s coach, was appointed in 2000. Borchard coached the Bloods to fifth and the SANFL finals both in 2001 and 2002. Borchard had laid the foundation for a strong side and was replaced by Shaun Rehn (ex-Adult Crows player, West Adelaide) as West Adelaide’s coach in 2003. Rehn coached the Bloods to the first SANFL Grand Final appearance since 1991.
Borchard was injured after the 1983 premiership win. He only played in 14 games in 1984 and 17 in 1985, when West reached the preliminary round. John Cahill, the Bloods coach, replaced Borchard with Mark Mickan as club captain in 1986. However, injury limited Borchard to only 3 games that year. Borchard was forced to retire from league football after the 1986 season.
