Alcaraz-Cuellar attended an open tryout in 2001 with the San Diego Flash, USL A-League. He was offered a contract by the team and spent 2001 in San Diego. Alcaraz-Culler quickly became a starter in San Diego. He scored six goals and had 3 assists. Alcaraz-Culler moved to Portland Timbers in 2002 after the Flash folded. Bobby Howe managed him and he deployed him as a Timbers playmaker. He was instrumental in the Timbers’ 2003 winning season, which saw them record their third consecutive winning season. This included a four-game winning streak. At nine assists, he set the single-season mark for assists. Alcaraz-Cuellar led the offense in 2004 with 10 assists. This culminated in the Timbers finishing first with 57 points and the league’s Regular Season Championship. They were defeated by the Seattle Sounders, their long-standing rival. After the season was over, he received the Assist Leader statistical award and All-League honors. The Timbers won their fifth consecutive winning season in 2005. Alcaraz Cuellar was able to set a club record for assists in one season. He recorded 12 assists, which made him the league’s first assist leader for the second consecutive season. This marked Alcaraz Cuellar becoming the first league player to win this honor twice. . He was also selected for a second All-League team.
Alcaraz-Cuellar started playing soccer in 2001 with the San Diego Flash. He was a talented attacking midfielder and enjoyed a successful rookie season of professional soccer. Alcaraz Cuellar would sign with the Portland Timbers after San Diego folded the following season. He was able to expand his role as an attacking midfielder and playmaker in Portland. He was the Timbers’ all time leader in assists with 44. He was ranked second in games and third in points. He helped the club to claim their first USL First Division Commissioner’s Cup. He was also awarded the Assist leader Statistical award twice during his career, making him the first player in league history that has won the award twice consecutively.
Alcaraz-Cuellar was a youth soccer coach for Greater Seattle Surf SC (Formerly known as FC Alliance). In 2018, he became the Director of Coaching for Crossfire Select, a youth soccer club in Redmond, WA.
