Born July 18, 1961, Horacio “Howie” Gorospe Severino is a Filipino broadcast journalist. He is best known for his work at the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (the Probe Team) and the GMA Network. He has worked in both print and television media.

GMA Network released Ten Years of Howie Severino in October 2007. It was a compilation of ten of his most memorable documentaries. Huling Halabira, a documentary on a family who lives under railroad tracks in Pandacan (Manila), won second prize in a United Nations-sponsored international broadcasting competition.

In a 2009 trust survey conducted by Reader’s Digest magazine, Severino was sixth on a list of most trusted Filipinos.

Online, he was the first blogger on GMA’s web platforms. His journalistic exploration of emerging media culminated in 2009 with his appointment as GMA Network’s Vice President for Multimedia Journalism and his subsequent assignment to helm GMA News Online.

Severino is the son of Ambassador Rodolfo Severino Jr. and Tati Gorospe Severino. A former schoolteacher and administrator.

He met Benigno Aquino Jr. while a college student in Boston during the 1980s. After Aquino’s assassination, Severino returned to his alma mater Ateneo High School in order to continue teaching and joined the anti-Marcos movements. On the same day Lino Brocka, Behn Cervantes and Severino were arrested, Severino was detained in Fort Bonifacio for eight days. Fort Bonifacio was then a notorious army camp that was not the hub of high-end real property development.

Severino began his career as a journalist and magazine writer in 1988. He was a co-founder and first director of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, and a prominent documentary filmmaker. In 2009, Severino was appointed Editor-in-Chief at GMA News Online. After five years of service, Severino resigned in 2014. He was elected Vice President for Professional and Development at GMA Network in May 2014.

In 2007, Severino was inducted to the Rotary Club of Manila’s Journalism Hall of Fame after he was named Broadcast Journalist of the Year twice and Investigative Journalist of the Year twice.
