He started his career as a rock musician and became a pioneer of Web Design and interactive Flash design. Finally, Curtis made short films and commercials.

Curtis managed Hillmancurtis through his final days at 51. After a long battle with colon cancer, Curtis died at his Brooklyn home on April 18, 2012.

Curtis directed a documentary about the 2008 album by David Byrne & Brian Eno. Later, he directed Ride, Rise, Roar, which documented the Songs of David Byrne & Brian Eno Tour.
