High Contrast’s 2008 remix of the #1 single “No Way to Say”, was released on the Japanese Ayumi Hamasaki’s remix album Ayu-mix 6: Silver. He also remixed “Hometown Glory”, by Adele, and “Pjanoo”, by Eric Prydz. These were later included in the album Confidential. They were played during his January 2009 takeover for BBC Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank Show.

He played at the 2011 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Barrett currently is a resident DJ at the following clubs: Hospitality as part of Hospital Records at Matter in London (previously at Heaven); Aperture at Clwb Ifor Bach (The Welsh Club) in Cardiff; and at Roxy in Prague. He was also on regular rotation at Fabric in London.

High Contrast played a key role in selecting and producing the music for the Athletes Parade at the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony. Half a dozen tracks by High Contrast were played and are present in the event’s official soundtrack Isles of Wonder.

He released his second album, Tough Guys Don’t Dance in 2007. It was selected by Pete Tong as the ‘Essential Mix Of The Year’. In October 2007, he released his third album, Tough Guys Don’t Dance. Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, and Jo Whiley supported the second single, “If we Ever”, on Radio 1 and helped it reach number 1 on the DnB and dance charts, as well as number 4 in Indie.

Barrett’s debut album True Colours was released by Hospital Records in June

2002. “Return of Forever”, “Global Love” and other tracks made it into the UK Singles Chart. High Society was his second album.

High Contrast featured on BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix Show, 6 April 2003. His mix featured liquid funk mostly from Hospital Records. This Essential Mix was broadcast on Radio 1 on January 9, 2005. Andy C, another drummer and bass artist, couldn’t deliver his mix. Barrett started his own record label, The Contrast, in October 2005. In November 2005, Barrett released his first single, “Days Go By”/”What We Do”.

His father, Paul ‘Legs’ Barrett, used to manage Shakin’ Stevens. His mother, Lorraine Barrett, was the Welsh Assembly member for Cardiff South and Penarth until May 2011.
