Herbert Scott is one of the most popular and richest American Football Player who was born on January 18, 1953 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States. Herbert Carnell Scott, born January 18, 1953, is an ex- American football offensive lineman in The National Football League. He was a graduate of Kellam High School, Virginia Beach. He went on to be a star at Virginia Union University.
The Dallas Cowboys selected Scott as an offensive guard in the 13th round, 1975 NFL Draft. Scott was one of twelve rookies who were drafted that year. This is why the Cowboys gave him the nickname “Dirty Dozen”, which refers to the 1975 Cowboys draft that led to the Cowboys reaching Super Bowl X. The “Dirty Dozen”, rookie class, didn’t include Mike Hegman, a linebacker who was drafted in that year, but did not arrive until 1976, or rookie-free agent quarterback Jim Zorn. Zorn made the team but was later removed to make way for Preston Pearson, who had just been fired by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In 1980, Scott became the Cowboys’ first All-Pro offensive lineman since Rayfield Wright in 1975. He was a two-time first team All-Pro and a three-time Pro Bowler, attending the game from 1979 through 1981. Teammate Tony Dorsett once said, “When Herb goes after a guy, the next thing you see are feet in the air.”
In 1982, he was inducted into the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Hall of Fame.
His talents and development enabled the Cowboys to trade John Niland in 1975, who had been to six Pro Bowls. They used the draft pick from Philadelphia Eagles to select wide receiver Tony Hill.
