Henry James Melton, born October 11, 1986, is an American football defensive end. He played college football at the University of Texas. There, he was a running back on the 2005 National Championship team. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Chicago Bears during the 2009 NFL Draft. He has also played for Dallas Cowboys.

Melton and Sergio Kindle were both arrested on separate charges of driving while intoxicated in the summer before the 2007 Longhorn football season. Both were removed from the team during the first three games. Both players were required to perform community service. They missed practice the first two days to visit a mother whose son had been injured by a drunk driver.

In 2011, Melton recorded a career-high 7 sacks, third most by a defensive tackle, behind Bengals’ Geno Atkins and Raiders’ Tommy Kelly, who had 7½ sacks apiece. Melton and teammate and center Roberto Garza were eventually named to the USA Today All-Joe Team.

In 2013, Melton was involved in an altercation at a bar in the Dallas area, but the criminal charges were ultimately dropped by the prosecution.

Melton, a junior at the University of Texas was arrested on June 1st 2007 and charged with intoxicated driving downtown Austin, Texas.

Grapevine High School senior Melton was an All-USA selection second-team. He gained more than 800 yards and scored eight touchdowns while there. As a junior, Melton was awarded All-District (5-5A), rushing for more than 800 yards and 12 TDs. He averaged 6.2 yards per run in 2003. As a sophomore, he also gained more than 800 yards. He was also a letterman in track and baseball.

Melton made his first Longhorn appearance against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on September 3, 2005. Mike Lampe reports that Melton was a backup runningback in his first two seasons. He was able to carry 132 times, for 625 yards (4.7 yard average) and 16 touchdowns. Melton changed to defensive tackle in 2007.

He was selected by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. On May 29, 2009, Melton agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the Bears. During a preseason game, he returned a kickoff for 20 yards. Melton registered his first NFL sack on Brett Favre during a Week 10 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
