His highest doubles ranking was world No. 191, which he achieved in December 2018.

Laaksonen did not participate in the September 2014 semifinal against Italy. After good results on Challenger Tour, he was replaced by Chiudinelli. Severin Luthi, a Swiss coach, called Yann Marti Yann Marti as a sparring partner. They would go on to win the final rubber and remain in the World Group.

He was the first to be called to play for Switzerland in the first round against Czech Republic (2013) (lost to Berdych). For the Davis Cup World Group playoff, Switzerland faced Ecuador in Neuchatel in September 2013. Laaksonen was originally called to play alongside Marco Chiudinelli and Stanislas Wawrinka. Laaksonen was expelled from the team after his behavior during Thursday practice.
