Havidan Rodriguez is one of the most popular and richest Sociologist who was born on February 24, 1959 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Havidan Rodriguez, an American sociologist and university administrator, was born in Arecibo (Puerto Rico), on February 24, 1959. He is currently president of the University at Albany (SUNY). He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin Madison in Sociology.

Rodriguez was elected the 20th President of the University at Albany, SUNY on June 21, 2017 by the State University of New York Board of Trustees. He assumed this position in September 2017. Rodriguez is the first Latino president of any campus at SUNY. Rodriguez was previously the founding Provost and Executive vice president for Academic Affairs at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He also served as Interim President at University of Texas-Pan American and Deputy provost at University of Delaware. After earning his Ph.D., Rodriguez was appointed to the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez.

Rodriguez, along with Marie T. Mora, Alberto Davila, is the co-author of Population, Migration and Socioeconomic Outcomes between Island and Mainland Puerto Ricans: La Crisis Boricua, Lexington Books, November 2017. He is also co-editor of Handbook of Disaster Research with Quarantelli, Dynes, Springer 2006; Handbook of Disaster Research 2nd Edition (with Trainor, Donner, Springer 2018, 2018); and Latinas/os: Changing America’s Face (with Rogelio Senz and Menjivar Springer 2008).

Rodriguez is a prolific author in the field of social science and disasters (including vulnerability and resilience to disasters), as well as socioeconomic well-being in minorities, especially Latinos/as in the United States (including migration, education and socioeconomic mobility among Puerto Ricans living in Puerto Rico and the Contiguous United States). Rodriguez has participated in and led a variety of field research projects. He also received his master’s in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and his Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His Ph.D. specialization was Demography. He continues to publish in this area, as well as his interdisciplinarian work.

Rodríguez has been featured in The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, the January/February 2018 issue of Latino Leaders Magazine, The Minority Report. He was interviewed about Puerto Rico’s economic crisis by El Nuevo Día in June 2018, and included as a “trailblazer” in the December 2017 American Way.
