Thorpe studied at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama. Her roles in British sitcoms The Brittas Empire (1991-1997) and Absolutely Fabulous (1992-192012) are her most well-known. She has also appeared in West End musicals such as Cabaret (2006) and Wicked (2008). (2010).
Thorpe replaced Jane Gurnett’s role as Tanya in Mamma Mia! on 14 June 2010.
Thorpe returned to Wicked to play Madame Morrible from Monday 22 April 2013 until Saturday 16 November 2013, in place of Louise Plowright who withdrew from the role due to illness.
In 2018, Thorpe joined the cast of Ruthless! The Musical as Miss Myrna Thorn.
She took over the role as Madame Morrible, played by Susie Blake in Wicked’s West End production on 14 April 2008. Julie Legrand replaced her on 27 March 2010.
