Halleh Ghorashi, also known as Ghoreishi, is an Iranian-born Dutch anthropologist. She was born in Tehran on 30 July 1962. She held the PaVEM Chair in Management of Diversity and Integration at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam from 2005 to 2012. She was awarded the 2008 Triumph Prize.
Ghorashi was born in Iran and moved to the Netherlands as a political refugee in 1988. Ghorashi studied cultural anthropology at Vrije University in Amsterdam and obtained her Ph.D. from University of Nijmegen, May 2001. Her doctoral dissertation was titled “Ways to Survive, Battles for Win: Iranian Women Exiles In the Netherlands and the U.S.” She was made a professor in 2005 and became the first occupant of PaVEM’s Chair for Management of Diversity and Integration. The Dutch media covered her inauguration well, with Princess Maxima of Netherlands as chair of PaVEM.
Ghorashi was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2020.
