She holds two PhDs: one in environmental studies at the University of Meknes (1991), and one in engineering at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Mines de Saint-Etienne de Saint-Etienne (France) with a thesis about wastewater treatment. A diploma in political communication is also hers from the University of Washington, USA (2008).
After participating in the 2013 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Warsaw, and the 2014 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Lima, she took a leadership role in the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference which was the climate change negotiations in Paris. She was named a “High-Level Climate Change Champion” by Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in May 2016.
In 2014, El Haite was awarded the Freedom Prize by the Spanish Foundation Women for Freedom and Democracy. In December 2016, she received the insignia of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor of the French Republic from President François Hollande. The award was presented by former Prime Minister Laurent Fabius for her national and international commitment to the ecological cause.
On 19 September 2016, El Haite gave the keynote address at the opening event of Climate Week NYC in New York City, calling on world leaders to move from their Paris Agreement commitments to more robust climate action. She was a host of 2016 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Marrakesh in November 2016.
El Haite belongs to the Popular Movement party. She was elected president of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Morocco in 2007. In 2012, she was elected president of the International Network of Liberal Women. She has been the president of the International Relations of the Popular Movement since December 2012.

Hakima El Haite, born 13 May 1963, is a Moroccan climate scientist and entrepreneur. EauGlobe was the first environmental engineering company in the MENA region, founded by her in 1994. From 2013 to 2017, she was Minister Delegate in Charge of Environment for the Kingdom of Morocco. She was elected Vice President of the United National International Climate Conference (COP21) in 2015. From 2015 to 2017, she was the Special Envoy for Climate Change of Morocco. She also served as the High-Level Climate Champion of United Nations International Climate Conference (COP22), 2016 – 2017.
El Haite was a worker for Fez’s urban agency in territorial administration from 1993 to 1993. She was also Treasurer of National Union of Women. EauGlobe was founded by her in 1994. It specializes in environmental consulting and engineering. She is the Vice President of US NAPEO, the US North Africa Partnership for Economic Opportunity and ConnectinGroup International. This organization was the first to train women for office.
El Haite was appointed Minister Delegate in Charge of the Environment for the Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment in 2013. In this position she oversees environmental policies in the constitution so that a sustainable development component is included in every public policy initiative .
