Anurupa Roy is one of the most popular and richest Puppeteer who was born on March 10, 1977 in Delhi, India. Anurupa is a professional puppeteer and designer of puppets as well as director of the theater for puppets. Puppeteer Anurupa Ray views the art of puppetry as more than “manipulating dolls with strings” but as a blend of performance and plastic that sees masks, sculptures, material, figures, objects, and narratives are joined with movement, music theatre and physicality to form the theater in which humans as well as puppets perform together. She began her group Katkatha in 1998, which was officially registered with The Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust in 2006. She has directed more than fifteen shows for children and adults that range from the Ramayana as well as the Mahabharata up to Shakespearen comedy and the Humayun-nama. The puppets utilized by the group range between 3 inches and forty feet. The show has toured throughout Europe, Japan and South Asia. 2013- Workshop with young people in the conflict zone ManipurThe workshop was held in Churachandpur-(with the NGO Standing Together to Enable Peace STEP) Puppetry workshop for youngsters from various tribes of Churachandpur district to promote the possibility of inter tribe dialogue and mutual understanding. The workshop brought together youth from the Paythei, Naga and Kuki backgrounds who have been in wars with one another in Manipur for over 22 years. The program aimed to use the arts to encourage dialog and challenge the stereotypes we have about each other. The participants created a huge puppet show at the conclusion of the workshop, which has been performed for more than 2000 people living in the district. Sri Lanka – With Peace Development Institute – Sri Lanka – PDI-SL -Workshop with Tamil, Muslim and Sinhalese youth leaders to investigate the possibilities of art and peace building. The six-day training also prepared the youth leaders to be the change makers in their community through being trained to perform puppeteer-based interventions within their communities.

2012- Sri Lanka – With Peace Development Institute(PDI) Sri Lanka- PDI-SL Workshop with community psychologists and clinical psychologistsconducted art- based interventions that utilized masks, dramatics and puppets as well as archetypes systems as well as power and status, and the cycles of violence.
