Before joining Scunthorpe United, Adelakun was a youth player with Crystal Palace and West Ham United. In the 1-0 loss against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park, Adelakun made his professional debut on 29 December 2012. He was a substitute for Adda Diziri in the 72nd minute. At 16 years old, he was the club’s youngest ever player. He was only 201 days old. Adelakun made his only appearance in the season on 27 April 2013, when he played for Anthony Forde. This match saw Scunthorpe relegated to League Two.
In the 2013-14 season, he made 28 appearances for Scunthorpe and scored 2 goals. This was when Scunthorpe was promoted back to League One. He scored his first goal in Scunthorpe’s 3-1 win at home over Torquay United on 30 November. He replaced Reuben Noble-Lazarus in 55 minutes and then scored the final goal five minutes later. In December 2017, he was named EFL League One Player Of The Month.
