Habib Beye, a Senegalese footballer who was born 19 October 1977 in France, is now 81. Although he could play in central defense, his primary position was right-back.
On 17 September 2007, he made his Newcastle debut as a substitute for Newcastle’s 1-0 loss at Derby County. After that, he made his full debut at West Ham United. This performance impressed many Newcastle fans. He was a fixture in the team and scored his first Premier League goal against Birmingham City, on 8 December.

He made substitute appearances in Senegal’s matches in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, against Denmark, Uruguay and Sweden. After missing the start of the 2008–09 season from injury, Beye started against Manchester City on 20 October 2008. He was sent off after only 12 minutes for a challenge on Robinho, the first red card of his Newcastle career. Newcastle appealed the red card and on 23 October the claim of wrongful dismissal was upheld. After Newcastle were relegated from the Premier League at the conclusion of the 2008–09 season, an article on the club’s official website stated Beye’s intention to remain at the club to help get them back into the Premier League.
Beye signed with Olympique Marseille in 2003 for EUR2.5 million. This was according to Alain Perrin, then the manager. He participated in both UEFA Champions League football and UEFA Cup football during his first season. He was a key player in the Marseille team that reached the 2004 UEFA Cup final. This run saw him as a crucial defender against Newcastle United. In particular, he was effective against Newcastle’s talisman striker Alan Shearer. He was on the losing team as Marseille lost to Valencia 2-0. In 2006, his team lost the French Cup to Paris Saint-Germain. His team lost that match 2-1. He also lost in 2007 against his former club Marseille Saint-Germain. He was the fan’s Player of the Year during his time at Marseille. Before his move to Newcastle United, he was the club’s captain for two years.
