Gunnleifur Gunnleifsson is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on July 14, 1975 in Reykjavík, Iceland. Gunnleifur Vignir Gunnleifsson (born 14 July 1975) is an Icelandic football goalie who is currently playing for Breidablik and has spent the majority of his time at Breidablik’s Kopavogur counterparts HK.
In the HK team, he was a player in 2007 when HK finished 9thand was two points from being relegated and played every game except one in 2008 when the club was delegated to 11th position. Gunnleifur joined Liechtenstein in Liechtenstein Swiss Super League club FC Vaduz on loan on the 13th of February during the Icelandic off-season. The player didn’t come back on loan until the end of July, during between the Icelandic season. He played in eight games as HK placed 3rd during the one. deild.
During his time with Keflavík he played his first three international games, his debut coming as an 83rd-minute substitute in a 5–0 friendly victory against Malta in July 2000. He featured as the starting goalkeeper in two games in South America in January 2001, against Uruguay and Chile, but didn’t feature after that until after his 2008 season with HK. After that he featured in 18 games from his start against the Netherlands in October 2008 until his start against Israel in November 2010, then not featuring in 2011 at all. He played three games in 2012, but was mostly a substitute for Hannes Þór Halldórsson.
After that season, as FH weren’t ready to offer him more than a 1-year contract, he transferred to Breiðablik before the 2013 Úrvalsdeild season and signed a 3-year contract. The move wasn’t popular with HK fans, as HK and Breiðablik are the two major teams from Kópavogur and as such have a rivalry.
Although he played in every single game in the previous two seasons for Keflavik He was transferred to his home club, HK, before the 2002 2. deild season as the club was elevated to the 1. deild karla again. The club took the league with 15 wins out of 18 matches and just one loss, Gunnleifur even scoring in the final match of the year against Selfoss after a penalty was awarded at the end of 70 minutes. This would bring the score to 6-1 and the final score was 7-2. Gunnleifur was the main option for HK when the club placed 8th in 2003 and 3rd in 2004, two points away from a promotion spot 7th in 2005 and the team placed 2nd in 2006 and were elevated into The Urvalsdeild to the Urvalsdeild for the first time.

Gunnleifur began his career with local club HK through three appearances during the 1995 season when the club was moved from 1. deild karla to the 2. deild. He moved to lower-league KVA, a club in the lower league KVA after a stint at Eskifjordur in the 1. deild and Reydarfjordur (later called Fjardabyggd) in 1996 and became the first choice goalie during the 1996 season, as KVA was promoted from the lowest league, which was the 3. deild to the 2. deild. Then he returned to HK to become their primary goalkeeper in 1997 during the 2. deild, as the club was elevated into the 1. deild again, together with Gunnleifur’s former team KVA.
After having a great time with the leagues below,, he made the move to Urvalsdeild Karla club KR which he was a part of for 10 of 18 games during the 1998 season for Urvalsdeild and kept a clean sheet for seven consecutive games and also keeping national goalkeeper (8 games in the year prior to the departure of) Kristjan Finnbogason out of the squad as KR was ranked second in their league. He only played one game during the 1999 season, when KR took the first Icelandic title in the span of 31 years. They then moved to the Urvalsdeild team of Keflavik in the course of the 2000 season when Keflavik finished in 6th place just two points from losing their place, and once more when KR finished sixth in the season of 2001 with a score of four points from relegation.
Before the 2010 Úrvalsdeild season, as he was now the main goalkeeper for the national team, he transferred to Icelandic champions FH. The club lost out on the title on goal difference to Breiðablik in his first season and finished 2nd again in the 2011 season, three points behind the champions. In the 2012 season he won his first Icelandic title (besides featuring in one game in a title-winning 1999 season) as FH finished 1st, 13 points ahead of Breiðablik.
