The Whalers had an overall record in the 16-20-3 range under Stefan after having started in the year with an average of 18-8-3 under Vellucci The team made playoffs as the eighth place team within the Western Conference. In the opening round of the playoffs, the Whalers were quickly eliminated by Kitchener Rangers in four games. Stefan returned the team to Plymouth in a second time in 2008-09, but after a record of 6-11-2, the coach resigned from the position in order to return in the Carolina Hurricanes organization as a Scout. Plymouth Whalers, until 1998 and then landed a job working for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League.
