In the first semester in Princeton University, Wahl covered the Princeton Tigers men’s soccer team which was then under the direction of Bob Bradley, who would eventually oversee Major League Soccer teams and the United States men’s national soccer team. Bradley offered Wahl the opportunity to take a course abroad in Argentina where he spent some time at Boca Juniors, before returning to the United States for the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Wahl mentions his experiences with Bradley as the reason to his passion for the game.
Wahl published his first book, The Beckham Experiment, in 2009. The book focused on the move of David Beckham to the LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer and his impact on the league. It became a New York Times Best Seller.
