He made his first grade debut for the Illawarra Steelers in 1977, and went on to play over 200 games for the club. He represented New South Wales on 31 occasions, and Australia on 20 occasions, including two Rugby World Cup campaigns. He is a member of the Illawarra Rugby Hall of Fame, and was inducted into the Australian Rugby Union Hall of Fame in 2013.
