As an undergraduate majoring in psychology of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, United States, Apps was a member of her college’s ice-hockey team that played in ECAC women’s hockey. Apps was a part of the Canada women’s national team of ice hockey, winning gold medals in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy and in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She also won of gold medals in Team Canada at the 2004 and 2007 World Ice Hockey Championships, and silver medals at the same competition during 2005, 2008 2011, 2009 and 2013.

Apps was a member of the Brampton Thunder in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League until 2015 at which point she announced her retirement from professional women’s hockey. App resides in Unionville, Ontario.
