Gianni Nicchi is one of the most popular and richest Mafia who was born on February 16, 1981 in Turin, Piedmont, Italy. Rotolo was concerned about the returning of members from the Inzerillo family back to Palermo and was a bit irritated with his boss rival Salvatore Lo Piccolo over a request from the Inzerillos to be permitted back to Palermo. The Inzerillo family was one of the clans devastated through the Corleonesi during the Second Mafia War in the 1980s, and was exiled to the United States with their relatives from New York’s Gambino criminal family. Rotolo was a member one of Mafia’s clans who had fought Inzerillo’s clan. Inzerillo clan and personally killed one of the clan members. He was not in favor of Lo Piccolo’s approval to allow returning the Inzerillos and was afraid of reprisal.
Gianni Nicchi, son of Luigi Nicchi, a mafioso who is imprisoned for life. He is thought to be the reggente (regent) of the Pagliarelli mandamento after the detention of father Antonio Rotolo on 20 June 2006, just two months following being arrested by mafia boss Bernardo Provenzano. The authorities issued arrest warrants for 52 to the most senior members from the Cosa Nostra located in Palermo (Operation Gotha). Nicchi did not get arrested.
On 21 January 2008, the Palermo Court convicted the fugitive Nicchi and sentenced him to 18 years in prison. Because he was tried under a special short procedure, he received a 1/3 reduction on his sentence. He was indicted on 7 February 2008, in operation Old Bridge against the Gambinos in New York and their connections in Palermo, involved in drug trafficking.
On 5 December 2009, Italian police arrested him in Palermo. He is incarcerated in the special security prison in L’Aquila under the strict Article 41-bis prison regime.
When Rotolo was detained on 20 June 2006 The Lo Piccolos pursued Nicchi. They commanded Francesco Franzese, boss of the Partanna Mondello Mafia clan, to track him down and kill Nicchi. But, Franzese was arrested on 2 August 2007. In a pizzino that was found in the house of Franzese, Sandro Lo Piccolo arranged for the murder of Tiramisu, the name used to denote Nicchi. It was believed that Nicchi was a fugitive to Milan and escaped from a hit team commanded by Franzese.

Giovanni “Gianni” Nicchi (Italian pronunciation: [dZo’vanni’dZanni’nikki”dZo’vanni ‘dZanni ‘nikki 1981, in Turin) is an part of the Sicilian Mafia. Despite being only a few years old – – he’s known as “u picciutteddu (“the tiny boy”) and is thought to be one of the most powerful mafiosi in Cosa Nostra which is located in Palermo. He was listed on the “most wanted list” of the Italian Ministry of the Interior from 2006 until his arrest on the 5th of December 2009.
Despite his age, the other mafiosi were able to treat Nicchi in a manner of respect. Pentito Francesco Campanella recalled when he was introduced to Nicchi by Nicola Mandala, Mafia boss of Villabate in 2004. “He treated him with high esteem,” Campanella observed and Mandala informed him that “you don’t realise who that is, even though they call him ‘u picciutteddu.” Campanella realized that the man was already thought of as an important character as a key figure in Cosa Nostra.
Nicchi fortunes changed after the arrest of Salvatore Lo Piccolo and his son Sandro on 5 November 2007. Nicchi is considered as one of the new powers in Cosa Nostra in Palermo. Other youngsters on their way up are Pietro Tagliavia, born in 1978, a scion from the Corso dei Mille Mafia family, and Salvo Riina, born in 1977 – the second-born son of boss of bosses Totò Riina – who was arrested in 2001 but released in 2007 when the Supreme Court annulled his sentence.
