Pope Francis appointed Morandi on 27 October 2015 as the Undersecretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and on the 18th of July 2017, he appointed him the department’s secretary and elevated Morandi to the position of archbishop in the form of the Archbishop Titular of Cerveteri. Morandi received the episcopal consecration at Modena Cathedral on the 30th of September, 2017.
