On May 23, 2019 Verbeek has been officially named Marco Kurz’ replacement as manager of A-League team Adelaide United. Verbeek played a key role in leading Adelaide United to their third FFA Cup victory by defeating Melbourne City 4-0 at Coopers Stadium. Because of the COVID-19 virus, Verbeek took a leave of absence in order to return to the Netherlands permanently while in contract with Adelaide United. Verbeek as well as Adelaide United decided to mutually quit on the 29th of April 2020.

The match was then put on hold. On the 29th of September, 2013 AZ dismissed him for a lack of chemistry the players.
