He made his debut at Orient in the league and scored his debut goal in professional football on the 17th of September, 2011 in the 3-1 loss at home against Oldham Athletic. An impressive string of performances and goals, including one in the final match of his FA Cup debut against Bromley and soon saw him draw attention from clubs like Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town. On the 23rd of May, 2012 Porter turned down a two-year contract deal by Leyton Orient leaving the club to anticipate his departure.
On 18 July 2013, it was announced that Porter had joined League Two side AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan deal. AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley said of Porter joining “The Dons” that “the pacy forward is likely to be utilised on the flank” and “George is very quick and direct; he will give us real high energy and creativity in the final third”, with Porter himself stating that he “cannot wait to get started at AFC Wimbledon having been impressed by the club’s support in the past”. Porter made his first appearance for “The Dons” two days later in a pre-season friendly game against Conference South side Sutton United at Gander Green Lane that resulted in a 4–0 win. However, he was substituted after only six minutes due to an injury, though this did look more precautionary than anything serious. On 24 January 2014, Porter returned to Burnley early from his loan after falling out of favour at Wimbledon, amid rumours of a training ground bust up with manager Neal Ardley. He made a total of 24 appearances scoring no goals.
He signed on a youth loan for Colchester United on 1 January 2013 until the end of the season and made his début the same day, coming on after 73 minutes as a sub in the 3–0 defeat at Crawley.
Porter was signed by Leyton Orient on a two-week trial in May 2010 participating in a variety of reserve games. He was accepted to the O’s in the month of May. Porter made his debut in the Orient shirt during an friendly game against his former club on the 14th of July in 2010 and scored the penalty with an 2-0 win. The league debut was in the 3-1 loss at home against Charlton Athletic on 13 August He was on the pitch as substitute.

In Sidcup, Porter joined Isthmian League Premier Division side Cray Wanderers during Cray Wanderers’ 2009-10 campaign. After playing a few games with the academy at Coopers Technology College in Chislehurst, Porter was promoted to the first team. He made an appearance during the FA Cup. The first goal he scored for Cray was scored in a 3-2 win against Margate. After his impressive performances in his first-team, Porter attracted interest from various Football League teams including Charlton Athletic, Gillingham, Dagenham & Redbridge and Leyton Orient. He quit Cray Wanderers after playing 41 games and scoring 11 goals across every competition. His performance was recognized by the manager’s player of the Award for the Year.
On the 29th of October, 2010, following a spell that was ill, Porter signed on a month-long loan with Conference South club Lewes. Porter made his debut for the Rooks on the 30th of October in a 1-1 draw against Dartford. In his subsequent match, a 3-0 victory in Weston-super-Mare, Porter scored his first goal for Lewes and was dismissed. The Lewes lease was extended however, at the end in January, he was sent for a loan move to Hastings United, where he made debut in the draw at home against Folkestone Invicta on 1 February. Porter scored the first time in the game for Hastings with the team’s 3-2 win against Tooting & Mitcham United on 12 February. In the final stages of the campaign, Porter was back at Orient to score a hat-trick in the 3-2 win over his club O’s with a five-goal defeat of Finnish second division team SJK in their pre- season trip to Finland.
On 3 July 2012, Porter signed for Football League Championship club Burnley on a three-year contract. Porter picked up an injury before the start of the season.
